Idith Meshulam Korman, PhD

Dr. Meshulam Korman studied with her mother and performed at age nine with Chamber Orchestras, giving solo recitals and broadcast concerts throughout Israel. After receiving her bachelor’s degree from Rubin Academy in Tel Aviv, she received her Master’s degree from the University of South Florida, focusing on playing the works of contemporary composers under Prof. Helps, and her doctorate from New York University, where she taught for ten years, researching the unpublished piano music of Stefan Wolpe. She collaborated with the composer and conductor Gunther Schuller, with whom she recorded Skalkottas’ 32 Piano Pieces for GM Recording. American Record Guide’s review described her “playing with energetic moxie and aplomb, her technique truly phenomenal yet, her subtle coloring of the introspective passages is no less awe-inspiring.” In her second CD of Laura Kaminsky’s music, she was reviewed by American Record Guide as “played with warmth and variety”. In June 2025, her third CD would be released by Signum with the piano music of Marianna Martines: 3 piano sonatas, and 4 piano concerti with the Oxford Philharmonic. 

Dr. Meshulam Korman’s mission as an artist has led her to seek out unjustly neglected composers and reach out to visual artists. She has collaborated with the South African visual artist William Kentridge and performed multimedia solo recitals at the Milan Museum and at Zankel in NY. Recently, she collaborated with the visual artist Louise Fishman and performed at Chaim and Read Gallery and at the Neuberger Museum of Art. In recent years, she has collaborated with Bread and Puppet Theatre and performed with them in France and Italy.  

Ms. Meshulam Korman is the founder and director of Ensemble π, a socially conscious ensemble, and functioned as the curator of the American Composers Alliance festivals, and on the board of the Association for the Promotion of New Music. Currently, she is teaching at Bard College at the Bard Prison Initiative program.
