Martines: The Complete Keyboard Works Named WPR Music's Album of the Week
We're delighted to share that Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR Music) has selected Martines: The Complete Keyboard Works as its Album of the Week.
Released earlier this year by Signum Classics, the recording marks the first complete modern recording of the surviving keyboard music of Marianna Martines. Pianist Idith Meshulam Korman is joined by the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Cayenna Ponchione-Bailey, in bringing these remarkable Classical-era works to life.
In its feature, WPR Music highlights Martines as an extraordinary Austrian composer, singer, and pianist whose music possesses "a gorgeous timelessness," quoting conductor Cayenna Ponchione-Bailey's observation that her works transcend instruments, performance styles, and concert settings while inviting listeners into a sound world that is "immediately rewarding and deeply enjoyable."
The article also praises the accessibility and enduring appeal of Martines' keyboard concertos, noting that the music feels equally at home in an eighteenth-century salon or as the soundtrack to a modern film.
This recognition from WPR Music is a wonderful acknowledgment of the artistry and scholarship behind this landmark recording and of the growing appreciation for Marianna Martines' extraordinary musical legacy.
